What is professional teeth whitening?
Professional whitening uses clinically formulated hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide gels — at concentrations far above any over-the-counter strip or kit — applied under controlled conditions by a dentist. The result is faster, more uniform, and longer-lasting than home treatments.
Before any whitening, Dr. Michela Marcato checks that your teeth and gums are healthy. Active cavities or gum inflammation are treated first to ensure safe, effective results.
Whitening options at Studio Marcato
In-office LED whitening (one session)
The most popular option for visitors. A high-concentration whitening gel is applied to your teeth and activated with an LED light. The session takes 60–90 minutes in the chair. Results are immediate — you leave Naples with a brighter smile the same day.
Take-home tray whitening
Custom-fitted trays are made from impressions of your teeth. You apply a lower-concentration gel at home for 10–14 nights. The result is gradual but highly stable. Trays can be reused with top-up gel for touch-ups years later.
Combined in-office + take-home
One in-office session followed by a home tray cycle. This combination delivers the most intense and durable result. A good option if you have extra time in Naples or can complete the home phase after returning from your trip.
What causes tooth discolouration?
Most whitening candidates have extrinsic staining — surface discolouration from coffee, tea, red wine, food pigments, or tobacco. Professional whitening works very well on these.
Intrinsic staining (from tetracycline antibiotics, fluorosis, or old trauma) is deeper in the tooth structure and responds less predictably to bleaching. In these cases, veneers or composite bonding may be a better solution — we discuss all options at your consultation.

Aftercare & maintaining your results
For the first 48 hours after in-office whitening, avoid strongly pigmented foods and drinks (coffee, red wine, dark sauces, berries). After this initial period, normal diet can be resumed. Long-term, regular brushing and limiting staining habits keep results lasting longer. We provide aftercare instructions in English.
