Guide — dental care in Naples

Your First Dental Visit in Naples — What to Expect

Never been to an Italian dentist? Here's exactly what happens at your first appointment at Studio Marcato — from booking to leaving the chair.

Step 1 — Booking your appointment

The easiest way to book is via WhatsApp. Send a brief message describing what you need (routine check-up, specific problem, or both) and your available dates. We respond quickly during opening hours and will confirm a slot.

You can also call us directly. Our team speaks English and will handle your booking entirely in English.

Step 2 — Arrival

We're at Largo Alessandro Lala 16, Fuorigrotta, Naples 80125. From the city centre, take metro Line 2 to Campi Flegrei station — the practice is a short walk from there. By taxi from the cruise terminal, approximately €15 and 15 minutes. Full directions here.

Arrive a few minutes early. You'll be welcomed by our reception team and asked to fill in a brief medical history form — available in English. This helps us understand any medications, allergies, or health conditions that are relevant to your dental care.

Step 3 — Clinical examination

The dentist will carry out a comprehensive examination of all your teeth, gums, and soft tissues (tongue, cheeks, palate). We check for:

  • Decay (cavities) in all tooth surfaces
  • Condition of existing fillings, crowns, or other restorations
  • Gum health — signs of inflammation, recession, or periodontal disease
  • Bite assessment
  • Soft tissue check — screening for any abnormalities

Step 4 — X-rays (if needed)

Depending on your clinical situation and how recently you had dental X-rays, we may take bitewing X-rays (to check for decay between teeth) or a panoramic X-ray (OPG) to see all teeth and bone. Digital X-rays are taken on-site and reviewed immediately. The dose is very low.

Step 5 — Discussion of findings

We explain everything we have found — in plain English, not dental jargon. If there are problems, we describe what they are, how urgent they are, and what the treatment options are. If everything is fine, we'll tell you that too, and what to do to keep it that way.

You will never leave the examination without a clear picture of your dental health and, if treatment is needed, a written estimate of the cost.

Step 6 — Treatment (if you decide to proceed)

Many patients choose to begin treatment at the same appointment — cleaning, a filling, or another straightforward procedure. This is entirely your choice. We never start paid treatment without your explicit agreement on the cost and procedure.

If more complex treatment is needed — crowns, implants, orthodontics, root canal — we will walk you through the options and help you plan appointments that work around your schedule, including if you are only visiting Naples for a limited time.

A note for tourists

Visiting a dentist in a foreign country can feel uncertain — different systems, unknown costs, language concerns. At Studio Marcato, we have treated many international patients and understand what matters most: clear communication, no surprises on the bill, and feeling confident that you are getting good care.

  • No Italian health insurance or EHIC required
  • Visa, Mastercard, Amex and major international cards accepted
  • Cash (EUR) accepted
  • Formal receipt provided for travel insurance reimbursement
